Under 1 hour: Mactan Island beaches
Mactan is connected to mainland Cebu by bridges and is home to the airport, so it’s the easiest beach escape from the city. The catch is that most of its coast is lined with resorts. You have two options:
- Public beach parks such as Hadsan Beach Park and Mactan Newtown Beach charge a modest entrance fee. They’re simple, local and good for a quick swim.
- Resort day passes at places like Shangri-La, Plantation Bay, Dusit Thani and Bluewater Maribago give you a cleaner beach, pools and usually a meal, for roughly ₱1,300 to ₱2,600. Some resort sand is imported, so lower your expectations if you’re used to natural white beaches.

Best beach day near the city: Mactan island hopping
If you only have one day, island hopping is the best way to get real sand and clear water close to Cebu City. Boats leave from Mactan, mostly around Maribago and Punta Engaño, to small islands just offshore:
- Hilutungan: a marine sanctuary with good snorkeling and lots of fish.
- Nalusuan: another marine sanctuary, with a sandbar and a boardwalk.
- Pandanon: a white-sand island and sandbar where many tours stop for a grilled seafood lunch.
- Caohagan: a small inhabited island with a white-sand beach.

Moalboal White Beach (Basdaku)
2.5–3 hours southWhite Beach in Moalboal is a wide, calm white-sand beach that’s popular with local families. It’s a short ride from Panagsama, where you can snorkel the famous sardine run right off the shore. It’s doable as a long day trip, but an overnight is more relaxing. Worth an overnight: Cebu’s best island beaches
